Blogging Privacy

You many have noticed that I don't use real names or post photos of my family on here.
I have a good reason for that.

I started blogging waaaay back in 2001.
Blogging was a fairly new thing.
I used Xanga because a few friends used it.
I didn't have a ton of followers, so I wasn't overly cautious about what I wrote.
I posted a lot of personal stuff, including pictures of my kids.

One day as I was doing a Google image search, I came across photos of my children!
It was a shock.
I definitely do NOT want my children's pictures showing up on Google for the entire world to see.

I checked my blog settings, and sure enough,  search engines were allowed to crawl my site.
I changed the settings, but the pictures were still on Google.
I deleted the pictures from my blog.
They were still on Google.
I waited a few weeks, trying different things, before finally deleting the blog.
It still took quite awhile after that before the pictures didn't show up on the search any longer

So, that's why I'm now overly protective about what I share on my blogs.
While I would love to share more and brag about my beautiful babies,
I will never post pictures of my kids, or use real names.
It's just too easy for such things to be tracked and/or end up where you don't want them to be.

It may seem paranoid, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Until Next Time...
