Today was a really nice day. We didn't do anything out of the ordinary- it was just one of those days full of little moments - the little moments that are actually the big moments when you look back on them.
After the usual daily stuff, we sat outside and enjoyed the gorgeous weather. We laughed, we watched the youngest play, we just enjoyed each other's company.
It was the kind of day that makes me stop and think about the blessings in my life. My children are getting older. The two oldest are 16 and 17 years old. The fact that they actually like each other and still enjoy spending time with their parents is amazing to me.
I heard a lot of stories about the horrors of raising teenagers. Heck, I know what kind of teenager I was! I was braced for it.
What I wasn't prepared for was the thought that having teenagers might not be that horrible! I have been so blessed with my children. I know they aren't angels, but they're pretty darn close. They rarely give us any trouble. They will butt heads with us once in a while, but that's the extent of it. There favorite past-time is hanging out with their dad. They're always working on some project together, or going fishing, and doing other guy stuff.
I can't take any credit for it. Like I said, I am amazed at what wonderful young men they are becoming. If there is anything I can credit it's homeschooling (it makes a HUGE difference) and the grace of God.
After a lovely afternoon, my daughter (13 years old) and I had a smash-book night. We "smashed," we ate junk food, we had fun. We both got something accomplished while spending time together.
Right now it is time to relax. I've had a nice day, but I still need to unwind. I'm off to watch some television and work on my cross-stitch.
Until Next Time....
